What is gallbladder adenomyomatosis?
Disease description:
My mother is 50 years old. She went to the hospital for a health checkup yesterday, and the results showed gallbladder adenomyosis. What is gallbladder adenomyosis?
Cholecystitis with adenomyomatosis is a common hepatobiliary surgical condition characterized by hyperplasia of the muscular and glandular tissues of the gallbladder. It can be classified into primary and secondary types. Gallbladder adenomyomatosis is a benign condition primarily defined by proliferation of glandular epithelium and smooth muscle layers. It usually lacks specific clinical manifestations, although symptoms may resemble those of cholelithiasis or cholecystitis, such as abdominal pain. Therefore, it must be differentiated from chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. For patients diagnosed with gallbladder adenomyomatosis, liver function tests should be actively performed. If liver function markers are significantly elevated or if symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal distension are present, surgical removal of the gallbladder may be considered to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.
