Why does the gallbladder hurt when I'm angry?
Disease description:
I often experience gallbladder pain when I'm angry. Could you please explain why anger causes gallbladder pain?
Gallbladder pain triggered by anger may be due to gallbladder spasms, gallstones, or cholecystitis. When a person is angry or under stress, hormonal levels in the body may abnormally increase, causing gallbladder spasms that lead to contraction of the gallbladder and result in pain. In patients with gallstones, anger may cause neurological dysfunction, triggering gallbladder contractions and subsequent pain. In those with cholecystitis, anger may impair the gallbladder's ability to excrete bile, potentially leading to bile retention within the gallbladder. This can provoke an acute episode of cholecystitis, manifesting as abdominal colic, nausea, and vomiting.
