After wearing braces, you should brush your teeth at least three times a day for two minutes each time. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush at a 45-degree angle, gently cleaning along the gumline and tooth surfaces. When brushing, position the toothbrush between the teeth and the braces to avoid damaging the braces. Choose a fluoride-containing toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay. Use dental floss or floss picks to clean hard-to-reach areas between the teeth. Braces can increase gaps between teeth, making it easier for bacteria to accumulate; therefore, daily flossing to clean these inaccessible areas effectively helps prevent gingivitis and periodontal disease. Use an antibacterial mouthwash at least once a week to help remove bacteria from braces and tooth surfaces and maintain good oral hygiene.
