What to do if your skin hurts after sun exposure
Skin pain after sun exposure is usually caused by skin damage due to excessive ultraviolet radiation, also known as sunburn or solar dermatitis. The following methods can help relieve pain and promote skin recovery:
1. Avoid further exposure: Move to a shaded area and avoid direct sunlight to reduce additional UV damage.
2. Cold compress: Apply a cold pack or cold towel to the affected skin to lower skin temperature and reduce pain and swelling. A cold compress with normal saline may also be considered, which can help reduce inflammation and soothe the skin.
3. Moisturization: Apply moisturizing cream to lock in skin moisture and alleviate dryness and discomfort.
4. Medication: Calamine lotion can be used to relieve itching and discomfort. If itching and pain are significant, topical ointments with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, such as compound polymyxin B ointment or fusidic acid cream, may be used.
If sunburn symptoms are severe or do not improve, prompt medical attention is recommended.
