What diseases is dapoxetine indicated for?
I have the condition of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. The doctor prescribed me dapoxetine. I would like to know what medical conditions does dapoxetine treat?
Dapoxetine, also known as dapoxetine hydrochloride tablets, is an oral medication primarily used to treat premature ejaculation in men. By regulating the balance of central nervous system neurotransmitters and inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine), it prolongs the ejaculatory latency period and enhances control over ejaculation, effectively improving symptoms of premature ejaculation. The drug also increases intracellular cGMP levels in the smooth muscle cells of the corpus cavernosum, promoting vasodilation and enhancing erectile rigidity. Additionally, it reduces the tone of the bladder neck sphincter, thereby decreasing the incidence of retrograde ejaculation.
When using dapoxetine, dosage must be carefully controlled to avoid side effects such as dizziness and nausea caused by overdose. It is contraindicated in patients with heart failure or moderate to severe liver disease and should not be used concomitantly with monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment. Prior to use, consultation with a physician is recommended.
