Causes and Symptoms of Facial Paralysis
Causes of facial paralysis:
1. Infectious conditions: Such as herpes zoster affecting the ear or meningitis, which may lead to facial paralysis.
2. Metabolic disorders: Diseases such as diabetes and vitamin deficiencies may increase the risk of developing facial paralysis.
3. Cerebrovascular diseases and intracranial tumors: Stroke or brain tumors may also cause facial paralysis.
4. Trauma and intoxication: Skull base fractures, facial injuries, or alcohol poisoning may also trigger facial paralysis.
Symptoms:
1. Impaired motor function of facial muscles: Inability to perform basic movements such as raising eyebrows, closing eyes, or puckering lips.
2. Facial asymmetry: Patients often exhibit paralysis of facial muscles on the affected side, drooping of the mouth corner, etc.
3. Other symptoms: May include hyperacusis (increased sensitivity to sound), eye movement abnormalities, and other signs.
