Causes of facial paralysis: 1. Infectious conditions: Such as herpes zoster affecting the ear or meningitis, which may lead to facial paralysis. 2. Metabolic disorders: Diseases such as diabetes and vitamin deficiencies may increase the risk of developing facial paralysis. 3. Cerebrovascular diseases and intracranial tumors: Stroke or brain tumors may also cause facial paralysis. 4. Trauma and intoxication: Skull base fractures, facial injuries, or alcohol poisoning may also trigger facial paralysis. Symptoms: 1. Impaired motor function of facial muscles: Inability to perform basic movements such as raising eyebrows, closing eyes, or puckering lips. 2. Facial asymmetry: Patients often exhibit paralysis of facial muscles on the affected side, drooping of the mouth corner, etc. 3. Other symptoms: May include hyperacusis (increased sensitivity to sound), eye movement abnormalities, and other signs.
