The causes of facial paralysis can be mainly divided into the following points:

1. Physical factors: Exposure to cold and wind on the face and behind the ears is the most common cause of facial paralysis. Cold stimulation may lead to vasospasm of the microvessels of the facial nerve, causing ischemia and hypoxia of the facial nerve, thereby resulting in facial paralysis.

2. Infection: Infectious diseases, including herpes virus, tuberculous meningitis, fungal meningitis, and others, may affect the facial nerve, leading to facial nerve paralysis.

3. Trauma: Injuries such as skull base fractures and facial trauma may damage the facial nerve, causing facial paralysis.

4. Improper surgical procedures: Facial surgeries such as parotid surgery and mastoid surgery may injure the facial nerve due to improper surgical techniques, leading to facial paralysis.

5. Cerebrovascular disease: Cerebrovascular diseases such as cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction may damage the facial nerve nuclei, leading to facial paralysis.

6. Toxicity: Conditions such as alcohol intoxication may also lead to facial nerve paralysis.

If the above symptoms occur, prompt medical attention is recommended.
