I'm five months pregnant and planning to have a color ultrasound. I'd like to know what indicators can be seen on an ultrasound for a five-month-old fetus?

Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
At five months of pregnancy, color Doppler ultrasound becomes an important tool for monitoring fetal growth and development. By this stage, the fetus has largely taken shape, and the ultrasound can clearly show the overall appearance of the fetus, including the contours of the head, body, and limbs. Specifically, doctors can assess fetal development by measuring parameters such as the biparietal diameter (which should be between 5.3–5.6 cm), head circumference (approximately 20–22 cm), and abdominal circumference (approximately 16.5–19 cm). In addition, the ultrasound allows observation of various fetal organs, including the heart, kidneys, and other internal organs, as well as fetal movements such as frowning and touching the nose. Through color Doppler ultrasound, doctors can also evaluate the structure and function of the fetal heart, as well as the positioning of the spine and internal organs.
