Can enlarged prostate heal on its own?
Disease description:
I've noticed that my urination is always weak, with a short stream, and I frequently have to get up at night to pee. After a hospital checkup, I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. I'd like to know—can an enlarged prostate be cured?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) usually does not resolve on its own. BPH may be caused by various factors such as aging, obesity, and hormonal imbalances, and these changes are typically irreversible. Therefore, BPH generally does not heal spontaneously, and if not treated promptly, it can significantly affect a patient's quality of life. For the treatment of BPH, it is recommended to first undergo a thorough medical evaluation at a hospital to clearly determine the condition. If the condition is mild, conservative management may include lifestyle modifications, dietary adjustments, and avoiding excessive fatigue. For more severe cases that impair urinary function, medication such as alpha-blockers may be considered to relax the smooth muscles of the urethra and improve urinary symptoms. If drug therapy proves ineffective or the condition continues to worsen, surgical intervention may be necessary.
