What should I do if my eyes are red from wearing contact lenses?
Disease description:
I am nearsighted and find wearing eyeglasses inconvenient, but whenever I wear contact lenses, my eyes become very red and the corners of my eyes feel itchy. Could you please advise what I should do in this situation?
Red eyes while wearing contact lenses may be caused by various factors, including unclean or expired lenses, ill-fitting lenses, prolonged wear, or eye infections. To alleviate this condition:
1. Ensure that your contact lenses are clean and not expired. Replace them immediately if they are contaminated or past their expiration date.
2. Choose the appropriate type, size, and prescription of contact lenses to avoid eye pressure or dryness. If redness occurs due to extended wear, discontinue use immediately and allow your eyes sufficient rest.
3. If redness and swelling are caused by an eye infection, seek medical attention promptly and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication.
4. Maintain good eye hygiene by avoiding rubbing your eyes with hands to reduce the risk of eye infections.
