How to prepare ginger soup to treat a cold
I've recently caught a severe cold with some symptoms of chilliness. I heard that ginger soup can help dispel coldness. Could you please tell me how to properly prepare ginger soup for treating colds, and are there any precautions I should take?
Ginger tea preparation method: Use fresh ginger, wash it thoroughly, then slice or chop it, as fresh ginger has the strongest medicinal properties and warming effect. Place the ginger slices or minced ginger into a pot, add an appropriate amount of water, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for 2–3 minutes, avoiding prolonged boiling which may reduce its medicinal efficacy. To enhance the effect, ingredients such as scallion whites, brown sugar, or jujubes can be added. Scallion whites, like ginger, have a pungent flavor that helps dispel cold and relieve nausea; brown sugar helps dissipate cold, promote blood circulation, and warm the stomach while tonifying the spleen.
After brewing, drink the tea while hot and try to induce sweating, which helps more effectively expel wind-cold and alleviate symptoms of a cold. Ginger tea is only suitable for colds caused by wind-cold and is not appropriate for wind-heat type colds. During preparation and consumption, ingredients and dosage should be adjusted appropriately according to the patient's constitution and condition.
