When is the best time to have a hysterosalpingography?
Disease description:
I have never been able to get pregnant successfully, so I want to go to the hospital to check whether my fallopian tubes are open. However, I don't know when would be the best time to go. When is the optimal time to undergo a hysterosalpingography (HSG) test?
The optimal time for a hysterosalpingography (HSG) examination is 3 to 7 days after the completion of a woman's menstrual period. During this period, the endometrium is relatively thin, which not only reduces the risk of vaginal bleeding caused by the procedure but also allows for clearer visualization of the fallopian tube morphology and patency. To avoid affecting the test results and to minimize the risk of infection, sexual intercourse should be avoided for 3 days prior to the examination, as well as for 2 weeks following the procedure; bathing in a tub or sitting baths should also be avoided during this post-exam period. For women with longer menstrual cycles, the examination may be appropriately postponed, while those with shorter cycles may undergo HSG before ovulation, based on basal body temperature measurements. Choosing the appropriate timing and adhering to pre- and post-examination precautions ensures the accuracy and safety of the hysterosalpingography procedure.
