Eyelashes turning behind the eyeball may be caused by the following reasons: 1. Eyelash shedding: As part of normal metabolism, some eyelashes naturally fall out. In most cases, shed eyelashes can exit the eye on their own. However, if they fail to do so, medical attention is required. A doctor may use a non-irritating irrigation solution to flush out the eyelash. 2. Trichiasis or misdirected eyelashes: This refers to abnormal eyelash growth direction, causing lashes to rub against the eyeball. It may result from facial obesity, poor development, eye inflammation, or other eye conditions. For mild trichiasis, affected eyelashes can be removed using epilation forceps. In severe cases, surgical treatment may be necessary.
