What tests are required before a hysterosalpingography?
Disease description:
During this period, since I haven't been able to get pregnant while trying to conceive, I'd like to go to the hospital for a hysterosalpingography (HSG) to check whether my fallopian tubes are blocked. However, I'm not sure if other factors could also cause infertility. I'd like to know which tests should be done before the HSG?
The following examinations are required before undergoing hysterosalpingography:
1. Gynecological examination: to assess for any abnormalities of the vulva, vagina, and cervix.
2. Bimanual gynecological examination: this allows the physician to evaluate the uterus and adnexa for tenderness or abnormal masses.
3. Ultrasound examination: this is performed to determine whether there is pelvic fluid accumulation or small tumors, and to evaluate uterine size and the presence of cysts in the bilateral adnexal regions.
4. Routine laboratory tests: including vaginal discharge analysis, complete blood count, coagulation time, and electrocardiogram (ECG), to ensure the patient has no infections, coagulation disorders, or other contraindications.
Only after all these examinations show no abnormalities will the physician proceed with scheduling the hysterosalpingography.
