Disease description:

I've been suffering from body odor for several years, and every summer is the hardest time for me. Recently, I heard that surgery can eliminate body odor, so I'd like to know: does the surgery for body odor hurt?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
In general, surgery for axillary osmidrosis (body odor) is not painful. During the procedure, the doctor will administer anesthetic medication to ensure the patient feels no pain. After surgery, as the anesthetic wears off, patients may experience mild discomfort or pain, but this is usually not severe and well-tolerated by most individuals. The pain typically subsides gradually within about three days after the operation, although those who are more sensitive to pain might feel it for a slightly longer period. During the recovery period, patients should keep their underarms dry to prevent wound infection. Frequent clothing changes and maintaining dryness under the arms are also important care measures. Patients should avoid strenuous physical activity during recovery, especially vigorous movements of the upper limbs, to prevent the surgical wound from reopening.
