Differences between premenstrual symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms
Disease description:
I've been feeling nauseous lately, and I suspect it might be an early sign of pregnancy. What are the differences between premenstrual symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms?
Premenstrual symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms are similar in some aspects, but there are also clear differences. Premenstrual symptoms typically include breast tenderness, mood swings, abdominal discomfort, weight gain, and others, mostly caused by hormonal fluctuations and usually subside once menstruation begins. In contrast, early pregnancy symptoms include missed period, breast tenderness, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, frequent urination, and others, which are often due to embryo implantation and rising hormone levels and generally last longer. Women in early pregnancy may also experience unique symptoms such as heightened sensitivity to smells and changes in appetite. Although there is some overlap in symptoms, early pregnancy symptoms tend to be more persistent and specific, and are accompanied by a missed period—the key distinction from premenstrual symptoms.
