My son gets mouth ulcers every summer. Could it be due to some kind of deficiency? What causes frequent mouth ulcers in a 16-year-old child?

The occurrence of oral ulcers is related to one's immune resistance. For example, consuming spicy and irritating foods may easily lead to "heatiness" in the body. Deficiencies in vitamins and zinc, as well as damage to the immune system, can also contribute to the development of ulcers. Oral ulcers generally have a certain self-healing capacity and usually resolve spontaneously within about a week. Encourage children to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, iron, and fiber, such as oranges and grapefruits, while reducing intake of spicy and irritating foods to promote healing of the oral mucosa and improve the oral environment. Urge children to develop good oral hygiene habits, including regular tooth brushing and mouth rinsing, and avoid using hard-bristled toothbrushes that may excessively rub the affected area. Maintaining oral cleanliness helps prevent secondary infections and accelerates ulcer healing. When symptoms of oral ulcers are severe, topical ointments with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects may be used, such as compound benzocaine gel or triamcinolone acetonide oral ointment. Apply these medications to the ulcer surface according to the product instructions to relieve pain and promote healing.
