What symptoms does oral mucositis have?
Disease description:
I've had mouth ulcers these past few days, and it's really painful. It was diagnosed as oral mucositis. What symptoms does oral mucositis have?
Symptoms of oral mucositis mainly include:
1. Oral ulcers: These appear as small, shallow defects or sores on the oral mucosa, causing severe pain that worsens during eating or tooth brushing. Oral ulcers can be classified into minor, major, and herpetiform types, differing in course and severity.
2. Oral pain and swelling: Inflammation leads to redness and swelling of the oral mucosa, accompanied by significant pain, which may even affect swallowing and eating.
3. Systemic symptoms: Some patients may experience systemic symptoms such as low-grade fever, headache, and muscle aches, especially those with major-type oral ulcers.
4. Dry mouth and oral malodor: Due to inflammatory irritation, the oral mucosa may become dry and may be accompanied by bad breath.
5. Decreased appetite: Pain and discomfort may lead to reduced appetite.
When these symptoms occur, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly for professional diagnosis and treatment.
