Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Scabies and herpes simplex virus infection differ in terms of etiology, symptoms, transmissibility, and treatment approaches: 1. Etiology: Scabies is caused by infestation of the skin with Sarcoptes scabiei mites, whereas herpes simplex virus infection is a skin condition caused by the herpes simplex virus. 2. Symptoms: Scabies primarily presents with papules, papulovesicles, and burrow-like lesions, accompanied by intense itching that is particularly severe at night. In contrast, herpes simplex typically manifests as vesicles, pustules, and crusting, and may be associated with fever and pain. 3. Transmissibility: Scabies is highly contagious and can spread through direct or indirect contact. Herpes simplex is also contagious, but transmission usually occurs via minor injuries to the skin or mucous membranes. 4. Treatment: The treatment of scabies mainly involves topical medications such as sulfur ointment, sometimes combined with physical therapy or surgical intervention. In contrast, herpes simplex is primarily treated with antiviral drugs such as acyclovir.
