Psoriasis flaking (desquamation) is not necessarily a sign of improvement. Psoriasis itself is a skin condition characterized by excessive scaling. In psoriasis patients, keratinocytes in the epidermal basal layer proliferate rapidly, with shortened mitotic cycles, causing keratinocytes to move too quickly through the epidermis. This results in large amounts of loosely packed keratin accumulating on the skin surface, leading to flaking. Skin peeling may simply be a manifestation of psoriasis rather than an indication of improvement. Improvement in psoriasis is typically accompanied by reduced skin lesions, lightening of lesion color, and relief from itching. Judging improvement based solely on flaking may be inaccurate. Flaking in psoriasis does not necessarily mean the condition is improving; other symptoms and a doctor's diagnosis should be considered when assessing changes in disease status. Patients should maintain a positive mindset and actively cooperate with treatment to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.
