Prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis differ in several aspects. Prostatitis occurs in the male prostate gland, whereas seminal vesiculitis affects the seminal vesicles. Typical symptoms of prostatitis include urinary irritative symptoms such as frequent urination, urgent urination, and painful urination, as well as chronic pelvic pain. In contrast, seminal vesiculitis mainly presents with hematospermia (blood in semen), dull pain in the perineal area, and may be accompanied by sexual dysfunction symptoms such as decreased libido and premature ejaculation. Although both conditions can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications, severe cases of seminal vesiculitis might require minimally invasive surgery, while prostatitis complicated by abscess formation may necessitate surgical incision and drainage. Prostatitis is primarily caused by pathogen infections and irregular sexual activity, whereas seminal vesiculitis is often associated with retrograde infection.
