Are hot flashes and excessive sweating signs of impending menopause?
Disease description:
I'm almost 50, and I constantly sweat—even in air-conditioned rooms. Could this mean I'm about to enter menopause? Is hot flushes with excessive sweating a sign of approaching menopause?
Hot flashes and excessive sweating are generally considered one of the early signs of menopause, especially during the perimenopausal stage in women. From a physiological perspective, the decline in ovarian function before and after menopause leads to a significant drop in estrogen levels, which may cause autonomic nervous system dysfunction and vasomotor instability, thereby triggering symptoms such as hot flashes and sweating. According to statistical data, approximately 90% of women experience hot flashes and night sweats during menopause, and these symptoms may persist for several years after menopause. From the viewpoint of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), hot flashes and sweating around menopause fall within the category of perimenopausal syndromes and are closely related to physiological changes such as declining kidney qi and depletion of Tian Gui. Therefore, hot flashes and excessive sweating can indeed be regarded as one of the precursors of menopause.
