Can a routine urine test detect prostatitis?

A routine urinalysis generally cannot directly diagnose prostatitis. Although indicators such as white blood cells, red blood cells, and pH value can be observed in urinalysis, these changes are not specific to prostatitis. Elevated white blood cells in urinalysis may suggest urethral or bladder inflammation, and increased red blood cells might be related to prostatic inflammation irritating the bladder mucosa; however, these changes could also result from other urinary system diseases. To accurately diagnose prostatitis, a routine examination of prostatic fluid is usually required, assessing changes in indicators such as white blood cells and lecithin bodies. Therefore, while routine urinalysis can serve as an auxiliary tool in evaluating prostatitis, it cannot be used as the sole basis for definitive diagnosis.
