How to cut ingrown nails
Disease description:
Recently, my nail has been growing into the flesh, causing significant pain when walking. I would like to know how to properly trim an ingrown nail.
Trimming ingrown nails requires caution. Below are specific steps and precautions:
1. Preparation: Choose a clean, sharp nail clipper and disinfect it to reduce the risk of infection.
2. Soaking and softening: Soak the affected area in warm water to soften the nail, making it easier to trim.
3. Trimming process: Begin cutting from one side of the nail, following its natural curve gradually toward the other side. Avoid cutting too deeply into the sides of the nail, as this may worsen the ingrown condition. Do not cut the edges on either side; maintain a neat, even nail shape.
4. Aftercare: After trimming, use a nail file to smooth the edges, removing any sharp corners. Then apply a medical cotton swab soaked in povidone-iodine solution to the area for local anti-inflammatory treatment, reducing the risk of infection.
If the ingrown nail is severe, do not attempt self-treatment at home. Seek prompt medical attention from a professional doctor. Additionally, maintain good personal hygiene, regularly trim your nails, and avoid letting them grow too long, which may cause them to grow into the surrounding skin.
