Disease description:

My mouth hurts badly, with canker sores and some areas developing blisters. I'm too lazy to move and don't feel like going to the pharmacy to buy medicine. I happen to have some cephalosporin antibiotics at home—can I take them? Does cephalosporin treat oral ulcers?

Cefalosporin, as an antibiotic, is primarily used to treat bacterial infections. However, in most cases, oral ulcers are not caused by bacterial infections, but rather result from various factors such as physical or chemical irritation to the oral mucosa, decreased immunity, and emotional stress. Therefore, cefalosporin is not the first-line treatment for oral ulcers. Management of oral ulcers should focus on maintaining good oral hygiene, avoiding irritating foods and beverages, and ensuring adequate rest and emotional well-being. In terms of medication, topical treatments such as oral ulcer patches or fibroblast growth factor may be considered to promote healing of the ulcerated area. In specific circumstances, such as when a bacterial infection accompanies the oral ulcer, antibiotics like cefalosporin may be used under the guidance of a physician.
