Premature ovarian failure refers to the decline in ovarian function in women before reaching the natural menopausal age. It commonly leads to symptoms such as hot flashes. After premature ovarian failure, the body's estrogen levels decrease, which is the primary cause of hot flashes. Reduced estrogen disrupts vascular constriction and dilation functions, resulting in episodic hot flashes and sweating. In addition to hot flashes, premature ovarian failure may also be accompanied by other symptoms, including shortened menstrual cycles, changes in secondary sexual characteristics (such as breast softness and atrophy), mood fluctuations (such as irritability), skin changes (such as acne, dryness, and melasma), as well as palpitations, shortness of breath, insomnia, and vivid dreams. Premature ovarian failure triggers hot flashes and may present with various other symptoms, warranting sufficient attention and timely treatment.
