Is psoriasis due to vitamin B12 deficiency?
Disease description:
My husband suddenly developed psoriasis. I read online that this condition is mainly caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. May I ask, is psoriasis due to a lack of vitamin B12?
Psoriasis is not directly caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. Although supplementing vitamin B12 may help improve skin lesions in psoriasis patients, clinical studies have shown that there is no substantial link between the development of psoriasis and vitamin B12 deficiency. The etiology of psoriasis is complex and multifactorial, primarily involving genetic, environmental, and immune factors. Genetic predisposition is one of the key factors; research indicates that approximately 35% to 90% of psoriasis patients have a family history of the disease. In addition, infections, skin injuries, psychological stress, and drug side effects may also trigger or exacerbate psoriasis. Therefore, for patients with psoriasis, in addition to maintaining a balanced diet and appropriately supplementing nutrients such as vitamin B12, it is important to actively identify and avoid triggering factors, and to follow comprehensive treatment and management plans under medical guidance.
