Can excessive internal heat (a traditional Chinese medicine concept) cause lymph node swelling?
Disease description:
I don't know why I've developed blisters on my lips, which are also slightly dry, cracked, and bleeding. Recently, I've noticed swollen lymph nodes. My mom thinks I have "internal heat" (shanghuo). Could "internal heat" cause lymph node swelling?
Heatiness may cause lymphadenopathy. Heatiness is usually caused by unhealthy eating habits or insufficient water intake, and this condition may reduce the body's immunity, thereby triggering bacterial or viral infections. As an important immune organ, lymph nodes will initiate an immune response when the body is infected, leading to the accumulation of lymphocytes and other immune cells within the lymph nodes to eliminate pathogens. The accumulation and proliferation of these cells can cause lymph node enlargement, which may be accompanied by pain. Diseases such as tonsillitis caused by heatiness can further lead to cervical lymphadenopathy if the inflammation continues to spread. When symptoms of heatiness appear, timely measures should be taken to alleviate the condition, and changes in the lymph nodes should be closely monitored. Patients with concerns are advised to seek timely medical consultation.
