Why does drinking too much black tea cause heatiness?
Disease description:
I have recently enjoyed drinking black tea, but I developed excessive internal heat (a traditional Chinese medicine concept referring to inflammation or overheating of the body). I don't know the reason—why does drinking too much black tea cause excessive internal heat?
The main reasons why excessive consumption of black tea may cause internal heat (fire) are as follows:
1. **Nature of Black Tea**: Black tea is a fully fermented tea with a warm nature. Long-term or excessive consumption may increase internal body heat, leading to excessive internal fire.
2. **Production Process**: During the manufacturing of black tea, especially in the drying and baking stages, high-temperature processing may introduce certain "fire" properties. Newly produced black tea may still retain some residual fire properties that have not fully dissipated, and consuming it directly may cause internal heat.
3. **Consumption Amount**: Black tea contains relatively high levels of theophylline. Moderate consumption can help stimulate saliva production, promote diuresis, and enhance appetite. However, excessive or long-term consumption of highly concentrated black tea may increase internal heat and lead to symptoms of fire.
4. **Individual Constitution**: For individuals who already have internal heat or are prone to developing internal heat, drinking black tea may easily generate additional heat, thereby worsening symptoms of fire.
When consuming black tea, it is important to adjust the amount based on individual constitution and seasonal changes, avoiding excessive intake that may cause internal heat. If concerns arise, patients are advised to promptly consult a healthcare professional.
