Why do my eye sockets hurt when I have excessive internal heat (a traditional Chinese medicine concept)?
Disease description:
I developed symptoms of "heatiness" such as sore throat and eye socket pain after taking some tonics. I would like to know what causes eye socket pain related to "heatiness"?
From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, excessive internal heat (commonly known as "fire") may be caused by factors such as upward inflammation of liver fire or liver qi stagnation transforming into fire. These conditions can affect eye health, impairing the nourishment of the eyes and leading to symptoms such as dryness and eye pain. In particular, upward inflammation of liver fire can cause symptoms such as red face and eyes, dizziness, and a sensation of fullness in the head, which may consequently lead to orbital pain.
From the viewpoint of modern medicine, eye conditions such as iris bulging and shallow anterior chamber may induce elevated intraocular pressure during episodes of excessive internal heat, which in turn may cause orbital pain. Factors such as increased blood pressure, fatigue, and a weakened immune system may also be associated with orbital pain caused by excessive internal heat.
When experiencing orbital pain related to excessive internal heat, it is recommended to seek timely medical attention to determine the exact cause and implement appropriate treatment measures. It is also important to regulate rest and diet, avoiding excessive fatigue and consumption of overly stimulating foods to prevent the occurrence of excessive internal heat. Patients with concerns are advised to promptly consult a healthcare professional.
