Can bladder stones be passed naturally?
Disease description:
I previously had kidney stones, and recently a stone has dropped into my bladder. May I ask if bladder stones can pass on their own?
Whether bladder stones can pass on their own mainly depends on the size and shape of the stones. If the stone's diameter is small, such as less than 6mm, and has a regular shape, it is usually possible for the stone to pass spontaneously through the urethra. However, when the stone's diameter exceeds 1cm, the likelihood of spontaneous passage decreases significantly. For larger stones, medical treatments may be required, such as taking medications like lithiasis granules, or undergoing surgical procedures like extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy under a doctor's guidance, in order to break the stone into smaller pieces and facilitate its removal. Therefore, when facing issues with bladder stones, it is recommended to choose an appropriate treatment method based on the specific characteristics of the stone.
