How to Reduce Swelling from Paronychia
Disease description:
I have developed paronychia on my finger, and the area has remained somewhat red. I would like to know how to reduce the swelling associated with paronychia?
The methods for reducing swelling in paronychia mainly include the following:
1. **Disinfection**: Use povidone-iodine to disinfect the swollen and red area to prevent further infection.
2. **Physical Therapy**: During the first 48 hours of the condition, apply a cold compress locally with ice to reduce pain and swelling. After 48 hours, switch to warm compresses to promote blood circulation and help reduce swelling.
3. **Medication**: Oral antibiotics such as metronidazole or cefmenoxime, or topical application of fusidic acid cream or compound polymyxin B ointment can strongly inhibit bacterial growth and help reduce inflammation and swelling.
4. **Surgical Treatment**: For severe cases of paronychia, such as when an abscess develops, incision and drainage or nail removal surgery may be performed to directly drain the pus and rapidly relieve swelling.
Please note that the above methods should be carried out under the guidance of a physician to ensure safety and effectiveness.
