Disease description:

I've had scabies for almost half a month. I don't know whether there are still mites present now. My skin isn't itchy anymore, and I think the mites may be gone. How can I tell when the scabies mites are completely eliminated?

Scabies can be considered as non-infested (i.e., free of mites) when the rash has completely disappeared, itching has subsided, an adequate treatment course has been completed, and medications have been used in accordance with medical instructions. The determination of whether scabies is non-infested mainly depends on the following criteria: 1. **Disappearance of rash**: All existing rashes must have completely resolved, and no new rashes should appear; this is the basic criterion for scabies treatment. 2. **Relief of itching**: The symptom of itching must have disappeared, especially at night, with no recurrence of severe itching. 3. **Treatment duration**: Scabies treatment typically needs to be sustained for a certain period to ensure all mite eggs are killed. Since it takes approximately 10 days for mite eggs to develop into adult mites, a minimum observation period of 2 weeks after treatment is necessary to ensure no new skin lesions appear. 4. **Medication use**: Anti-scabies medications should be used as prescribed. After completing the treatment course, thorough cleaning and disinfection should be carried out, including washing clothing, bed sheets, etc., to prevent reinfestation. However, if symptoms recur, prompt medical consultation and repeat treatment are necessary.
