What symptoms can gastric polyps cause?
Disease description:
I have been experiencing stomach discomfort and acid reflux over the past two days. After visiting the hospital for an examination, the doctor diagnosed it as caused by gastric polyps. What symptoms can gastric polyps cause?
The symptoms caused by gastric polyps are diverse, mainly including:
1. Upper abdominal pain and discomfort: Patients often experience a feeling of fullness or pain in the upper abdomen. The pain is usually dull and non-rhythmic.
2. Nausea and vomiting: Some patients with gastric polyps may experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Particularly when the polyps are located near the pylorus, they are more likely to obstruct gastric emptying, leading to nausea and vomiting.
3. Gastrointestinal bleeding: In rare cases, if the surface of a gastric polyp is accompanied by erosion or ulceration, it may lead to symptoms such as hematemesis (vomiting blood) and melena (black tarry stools). Severe cases may even cause chronic blood loss anemia.
4. Other symptoms: Such as dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) when the polyp is large and located near the cardia, pyloric obstruction symptoms (such as abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting), and very rare severe complications such as gastric wall strangulation and perforation.
