Adenocarcinoma of the cardia, also known as esophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma, refers to adenocarcinoma occurring within approximately 2 cm below the esophagogastric junction. According to the 8th edition of the TNM staging system published by the AJCC, staging of cardia cancer depends on the tumor's location and extent of invasion. Its development is associated with multiple factors, including Helicobacter pylori infection, long-term smoking and alcohol consumption, genetic factors, deficiency of trace elements, and consumption of foods high in nitrosamine compounds. Clinically, cardia cancer presents with various manifestations. Early stages may be asymptomatic; as the disease progresses, symptoms such as bleeding, pain, obstruction, dysphagia, weight loss, cachexia, and hoarseness may develop. Treatment options for cardia cancer include general supportive care, endoscopic palliative therapy, and surgical intervention. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving patient survival rates and quality of life.
