Disease description:

I often feel abdominal pain, which seems to be around the pelvic area. I suspect it might be ovarian cancer. Could you please tell me where the abdominal pain caused by ovarian cancer usually occurs?

Dr. Qi Zhirong
Ovarian cancer-related abdominal pain typically occurs in the lower abdomen, specifically in the areas on both sides below the navel corresponding to the location of the ovaries. As the ovaries are situated on either side of the uterus, ovarian cancer pain may appear on one or both sides of the lower abdomen. Specifically, if the ovarian tumor is located on the right side, patients usually experience pain primarily in the right lower abdomen; if it is on the left side, pain generally occurs in the left lower abdomen. Additionally, when ovarian cancer spreads to the pelvis, patients may experience generalized abdominal pain that can radiate to the lower limbs. It should be noted that early-stage ovarian cancer generally does not cause abdominal pain; pain typically appears in advanced stages or when complications such as tumor torsion or rupture with hemorrhage occur. Therefore, women experiencing lower abdominal pain are advised to seek timely medical evaluation for early detection and treatment of ovarian cancer.
