Has having abdominal pain for six months mean I have bowel cancer?
Disease description:
My child has been experiencing abdominal pain frequently in recent months, and at times it even affects his ability to attend school. Could having abdominal pain for six months be a sign of intestinal cancer?
Persistent abdominal pain for six months is not necessarily a sign of colorectal cancer, although colorectal cancer may cause abdominal pain. As a malignant tumor occurring in the epithelium of the intestinal mucosa, colorectal cancer typically presents with symptoms including rectal bleeding, anemia, abdominal pain (dull or distending pain that gradually worsens), difficulty defecating (often with thinner stools and increased frequency), and changes in bowel habits and stool shape. However, abdominal pain lasting six months could also indicate other conditions such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, or intestinal obstruction. Therefore, if abdominal pain persists for six months, timely medical consultation is recommended for professional diagnosis through examinations such as colonoscopy, laboratory tests, and imaging studies, in order to identify the cause and provide targeted treatment.
