Mumps: Cold compress or hot compress?
Disease description:
I recently developed mumps, and my cheek area is quite swollen. I would like to ask whether I should use cold compresses or warm compresses for mumps?

The treatment of mumps requires a decision between cold compresses and warm compresses based on the stage of the condition and symptom presentation. During the acute phase of mumps, especially when inflammation causes noticeable redness, swelling, and pain locally, cold compresses are a more appropriate choice. Cold compresses help constrict blood vessels and reduce blood flow to the inflamed area, thereby alleviating swelling and pain. However, during the chronic phase of mumps or after the inflammation has begun to subside, warm compresses may be more suitable. Warm compresses can improve circulation, help relieve muscle tension and pain, and aid further reduction of inflammation and tissue repair.
Patients with mumps should consult a physician or healthcare professional before using either cold or warm compresses to ensure the chosen treatment is appropriate for their current condition. Additionally, patients should monitor changes in their condition closely and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen, or if new symptoms arise.
