Disease description:

I usually enjoy eating cantaloupe very much, but now I'm having my period and cannot consume cold-natured foods. May I ask whether cantaloupe is considered cold-natured or hot-natured?

Cantaloupe is a cool-natured fruit. In traditional Chinese medicine, cantaloupe is considered cold in nature and enters the heart and stomach meridians. It has effects including clearing summer heat, relieving烦渴 (restlessness and thirst), and promoting urination. It is commonly used to alleviate symptoms caused by excessive summer heat, such as chest discomfort, loss of appetite, irritability with thirst, and oliguria (reduced urine output). Cantaloupe is rich in nutrients, including vitamin C, carotene, dietary fiber, and minerals, which provide substantial nourishment to the body. However, due to its cold nature, excessive consumption may damage the spleen and stomach, leading to gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; therefore, it should be consumed in moderation. Individuals with cold body constitution and weak blood, pregnant women, and women during their menstrual period should especially avoid excessive consumption of cantaloupe to minimize potential health risks.
