What happens if gastritis of the antrum is not treated?
Disease description:
I suspect I have antral gastritis; my stomach hurts after eating spicy food. May I ask what would happen if antral gastritis is left untreated?
If left untreated, antral gastritis may lead to various severe consequences. It may cause anemia, including megaloblastic anemia and iron deficiency anemia, with symptoms such as dizziness and fatigue. Untreated antral gastritis may also lead to gastrointestinal bleeding, manifested as black stools or sudden vomiting of blood, which can be life-threatening in severe cases. In addition, antral gastritis may progress to gastric ulcers, and long-term neglect may even result in gastric cancer. Apart from these serious outcomes, patients may also experience prolonged diarrhea, abdominal distension and pain, acid reflux, nausea, and other uncomfortable symptoms. Therefore, patients with antral gastritis must pay close attention to treatment in order to prevent disease progression.
