Dr. Guo Huijie
It is not necessarily mumps if lymph nodes appear on the neck. Lymph nodes are normal immune organs in the human body and are typically present in areas such as the neck, armpits, and groin. Normally, they are not easily felt. The appearance of lymph nodes on the neck may be caused by various factors, such as inflammatory lymph node enlargement, cancer metastasis, or cervical tuberculosis. Mumps, on the other hand, is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by the mumps virus affecting the salivary glands, mainly characterized by swelling and pain of the salivary glands. Although mumps can cause swelling of the neck lymph nodes, the presence of swollen lymph nodes in the neck does not necessarily mean mumps. Therefore, when swollen lymph nodes appear on the neck, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the cause through relevant examinations, and receive targeted treatment under the guidance of a physician.
