What causes a white coating on the tongue?
Disease description:
Recently, I noticed a white coating on my tongue while looking in the mirror, and I'm very concerned it might be a sign of a serious condition. What causes a white coating on the tongue?
White coating on the tongue may be caused by several factors.
1. Gastrointestinal diseases, excessive internal heat (pathogenic fire), fungal infections, and heavy smoking may all lead to a white tongue coating.
2. Chronic conditions such as pleural effusion, ascites, and chronic bronchitis may also cause white tongue coating.
3. Conditions including cold body constitution, deficiency of qi and blood, and invasion of wind-heat may also result in white tongue coating.
For different causes, patients can adopt dietary adjustments, exercise, medications, and other regulating measures to improve symptoms. For example, maintaining a light and easily digestible diet, consuming more food that strengthens the spleen and removes dampness, engaging in regular physical exercise, and following medical advice for pharmacological treatment. If the white tongue coating persists or is accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, timely medical consultation is recommended to determine the underlying cause and receive targeted treatment.
