Parotitis is an infectious disease caused by paramyxovirus, primarily affecting the parotid gland, the largest salivary gland in the human body. The main characteristic of this disease is swelling of the parotid gland area. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by persistent high fever, dizziness, and drowsiness. Patients often experience significant physical fatigue and reduced appetite. Parotitis may occur due to blockage of the parotid gland area and bacterial infection; when inflammatory responses develop in the lymphatic tissues of the neck and jaw, they may cause lymph node enlargement, leading to parotitis. For the treatment of parotitis, patients can take antiviral medications orally under a doctor's guidance, such as oseltamivir phosphate granules. Additionally, maintaining a light diet and avoiding irritant foods are recommended. Good oral hygiene and adequate rest are also crucial for recovery. If symptoms are severe or persist, timely medical attention is necessary to prevent possible complications, such as meningitis or organ dysfunction.
