Iron Dextran Oral Solution Side Effects
Disease description:
Recently, I went to the hospital for a checkup, and the doctor told me I have mild anemia. They prescribed me iron dextran oral solution. May I ask, what are the side effects of iron dextran oral solution?
Iron dextran oral solution, as an iron supplement, is primarily used to treat iron deficiency anemia. Its use may be accompanied by some side effects, mainly including:
1. Gastrointestinal reactions: This is the most common side effect, which may manifest as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, etc. Nausea and vomiting may result from the medication irritating the gastrointestinal mucosa, while diarrhea and constipation may be related to the drug's impact on the balance of normal intestinal flora.
2. Allergic reactions: A few patients may experience allergic reactions, such as rash and itching. Severe allergic symptoms, including difficulty breathing and swelling, may also occur in serious cases.
3. Black stools: Due to incomplete absorption of iron, some patients may experience passing black stools.
To reduce side effects, it is recommended to take the medication during or after meals and to avoid taking it with strong tea.
