What causes frequent hiccups normally?
Disease description:
I experience hiccups not only after eating a full meal, but also when drinking water and upon waking up from sleep. May I ask what commonly causes frequent hiccups?
Frequent hiccupping in daily life may be caused by multiple factors. Dietary habits are an important factor; eating too quickly, overeating, or consuming excessive spicy, raw, cold, or greasy irritating foods may stimulate the diaphragm, causing spasms and resulting in hiccups. Digestive system disorders such as indigestion and gastrointestinal dysfunction may also cause hiccups, as these conditions can delay gastric emptying and increase gas accumulation in the stomach, thereby triggering hiccups. In addition, psychological factors such as mental stress and emotional tension may lead to hiccups through effects on nerve regulation. Certain medications, such as sedatives and glucocorticoids, may also cause hiccups as a side effect. Chronic hiccupping may be triggered by various factors including dietary habits, digestive system diseases, psychological factors, or medication side effects, and requires diagnosis and treatment based on the specific individual condition.
