What are the causes of chronic renal failure?
Disease description:
My husband and I have been married for many years, but we have not been able to have children. We went for medical checkups and found out that he suffers from chronic renal failure. However, we don't know how he developed this condition. Doctor, could you please tell us what are the causes of chronic renal failure?

The main causes of chronic kidney failure include the following:
1. Diabetes: As one of the primary causes of chronic kidney failure, long-term high blood sugar can damage the glomeruli and renal tubules, leading to gradual decline in kidney function.
2. Hypertension: Long-standing hypertension increases blood flow within the glomeruli, leading to glomerulosclerosis and interstitial fibrosis, which can progress to chronic kidney failure. In addition, hypertension may cause renal artery sclerosis and stenosis, further worsening kidney damage.
3. Glomerulonephritis: Particularly chronic glomerulonephritis, the progression of this condition to its advanced stages is a common cause of chronic kidney failure. A decline in glomerular filtration rate leads to kidney damage and eventual failure.
4. Other factors: These include interstitial nephritis (such as damage caused by infection, immune injury, or toxins), polycystic kidney disease, metabolic disorders (e.g., hyperuricemia, hypercalcemia), and excessive use of medications or exposure to toxins, which may also lead to chronic kidney failure.
