What are the symptoms of facial paralysis?
Disease description:
I've noticed that my boss always has the same expression, and I suspect it might be facial paralysis. I'd like to ask the doctor, what are the symptoms of facial paralysis?
The clinical manifestations of facial paralysis mainly include:
1. Facial expression muscle paralysis: Patients are unable to perform basic facial expressions such as frowning, closing the eyes, or puffing out the cheeks, leading to disappearance of the forehead wrinkles, widened eye fissures, flattened nasolabial folds, and drooping of the mouth corner. When showing teeth, the mouth corner deviates toward the unaffected side.
2. Salivary and lacrimal gland secretion disorders: Secretion from the salivary and lacrimal glands on the affected side may decrease, causing symptoms such as dry mouth and dry eyes.
3. Ocular signs: The patient's eyes may not align horizontally, with the affected eye positioned higher and the pupil level correspondingly elevated.
4. Taste disturbances: Some patients may experience impaired taste sensation, especially on the side affected by facial paralysis.
5. Other symptoms: Additional symptoms such as impaired blinking, hyperacusis (sound sensitivity), tinnitus, and dizziness may also occur.
These symptoms may vary among individuals but are commonly observed in patients with facial paralysis.
