Can Huoxiang Zhengqi Water be used to treat paronychia?

Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Shui (Ramulus Cinnamomi, Fructus Amomi, etc.) cannot be used to treat paronychia. Paronychia is mainly caused by minor trauma around the nail or ingrown nails followed by infection with pathogenic microorganisms. It manifests as symptoms such as redness, swelling, and pain in the nail fold. Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Shui primarily functions to relieve surface symptoms, resolve dampness, regulate qi, and harmonize the middle jiao. It is indicated for colds caused by exogenous wind-cold, internal injury due to dampness retention, or summerheat-dampness. However, it does not possess anti-inflammatory or antibacterial properties and therefore cannot treat paronychia. Treatment for paronychia should follow medical advice and may include the use of antibiotics, topical medications, or surgical interventions to control infection and promote resolution of inflammation.
