Can ovulation test strips detect pregnancy?

Ovulation test strips cannot detect pregnancy. Ovulation test strips are designed to monitor ovulation by measuring the ratio of luteinizing hormone (LH) to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in a woman's urine to determine ovulation status. In contrast, pregnancy detection requires measuring the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in urine or blood, which is the principle used by early pregnancy test strips or pregnancy test sticks. Although the α-chain structure of HCG is similar to that of luteinizing hormone (LH), potentially causing a weak positive reaction on ovulation test strips in early pregnancy, such results are not reliable and should not be used as a basis for determining pregnancy. Therefore, if a woman wishes to confirm whether she is pregnant, it is recommended to use an early pregnancy test strip or undergo professional medical testing at a hospital.
