What causes bruxism (teeth grinding)?
My close friend is 23 years old, and every night she grinds her teeth, making very loud noises. May I ask what causes teeth grinding?

Bruxism, medically termed "nocturnal bruxism" or "sleep bruxism," can be caused by various factors:
1. Nervous tension and stress: Mental stress, anxiety, or tension may lead to unconscious teeth grinding, especially during sleep.
2. Malocclusion: Abnormal bite relationships, such as misaligned teeth or improper alignment of upper and lower teeth, may cause grinding as an attempt to adjust the bite.
3. Sleep disorders: Teeth grinding may be associated with certain sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
For daily care, it is recommended to practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing. Regular dental checkups and adjustment of lifestyle habits are also advised.
If teeth grinding persists and leads to significant tooth pain or wear, prompt medical attention is recommended.
